Additions and improvements for Paid Feature [Nov. 12th, 2009|02:11 pm]

We've made some additions and improvements to Notes!

The Notes feature has been added to two action-taking pages:
  • You can now add a Note directly on the Add a friend page - handy if you'd like to mark down where you met them or another name you know them by!
  • On the Ban and unban users page (under Account -> Privacy) you can now add a Note, including to a group of users all banned at the same time (so that next year you won't need to ask yourself "hey, why did I ban these guys?")

Other changes:
  • When you're viewing your existing Notes they're grayed out; click in a field to activate it to change the text (this page can be found from the header by using Profile -> Manage Notes)
  • Changes to editing:
    • When you're going to create a new Note but one already exists, you'll get a warning that you're editing an existing Note
    • You can now delete a note from the "Edit note" pop-up in the hover menu
    • You can now delete notes for multiple selected users on the Manage notes page
    • When you change Notes on "Ban|unban users" page, they can be edited and saved with "Save Changes" button

I had to tell [info]amefurift  first, but now I can tell the world! :D I received the following email tonight:

Liz,

Hope everything is going well with you.
Finally, Johnny’s segment will air next month!!
I will let you know more details soon.

My colleague is making a segment on Shingo Katori’s “Talk Like Singing”
and looking for SMAP, especially Shingo Katori’s fans.
If you know anybody. Please let me know.

Thank you for your help always.

OMG! OMG! OMG!

FINALLY! :D

I'm sooooo excited! :D As soon as she emails me more details, I'll definitely share with all you guys. I am soooo pumped about this! I was wondering, though, if this had anything to do with Arashi's new drama  (最後の約束) which is airing on FujiTV? :O

*dances around happily* At long last! :)

Comments on the previous entry were along the lines of no separate spoilers entry needed, since the short stories are stand-alone enough. So unless I'm otherwise requested, I'll just keep to one post, and ask people to remember to not be all spoily-pants about future short stories.

As requested, here's a reminder link of the book schedule.

Concert = WIN [Nov. 8th, 2009|09:19 pm]

[mood | accomplished]

So our choir concert was today. I had two solos, one being a verse from the Old Hundredth, which was our opening song and one being a few parts of "Lead Me, Lord". Nailed those two and then joined the rest of the choir (which is a trek... go out the back of church, walk around to the front, then climb the 30-35 feet up to the loft. During one song, and without getting winded at all so you can sing the next song) for the rest of the show. Everyone sounded great. And yes, I broke out "THE SUIT". Complete with shades beforehand. And I'm rocking the chromedome once more. Look good, feel good, sound good, life's good. Anyway, we did a few hymns from the front at the end with the congregation joining in singing. Last one was "Let There Be Peace On Earth", possibly one of the best songs for my voice, because the most powerful section is right where my voice is most powerful too. Turned the power up to about 8.5-9 and had myself a game of "Jim Versus The Giant Pipe Organ." Apparently, I won, because the other organist, who was standing in the choir loft next to the organ said he could clearly hear me. Go me. Managed to keep the power up without forcing it at all.

Got a LOT of compliments on my singing from a lot of various people, including two close family friends who hadn't heard me sing in a long time and were impressed, and a former choir director who really enjoyed hearing me as well. Even the people who've been there for years and the priests were impressed. I don't get a chance to really open up the pipes that often, so I made sure to make the most of it.

Amusing anecdote: I'm walking around in the back at like 3:58 and I'm like "No big deal, no nerves, no problem." The other main soloist, who is a music major and has done concerts at various churches here in town is a bundle of nerves. She even told me she takes pills beforehand to calm down because she gets so nervous. She was stunned that I'm wandering around and being all calm. Hell, I was even caffeinated, so I was worked up a bit, and I was still about 10x more cool and collected. Yes, I'm stroking my ego, deal with it. :P

Mom taped it, but I swear the tape recorder makes everything sound like it's wavering. We'll see.

Got home, turned on the race and saw that Jimmie Johnson's "nearly insurmountable lead" had a huge chunk taken out of it. Crashed on lap 3, ended up in 38th after huge amounts of work on the car were needed to just make it run. Mark Martin, on the other hand, finished 4th. Lead's down to 73 now.

Also, Shaz-Bagl (my fantasy football team) is rocking this week. Looks like I'm making a late charge and might be getting my 3rd "Weekly High Score" award.

Now just taking it easy, preparing for the service on Tuesday (another couple of solos then as well), and then looking forward to AUSA. Can't wait to see so many of my friends that weekend. Only wish Shelly could be there too (she'll be at AAC that weekend).

And now, time for VGZ! http://www.livestream.com/vgzlive

Looks like my Dragon Age character profile is finally starting to update. Whee!

Looks like it's a bit behind though. (And not the "hour" it says in player profiles...), since she's been in unfortunately slightly skankier (and uglier) robes since yesterday sometime, and has been wielding a better staff, stuff like that. Er, and yeah, just noticed that's at level 4 which.. yeah, old info.

But still! At least it gives an idea of the character...

The plot thickens! :O

(I swear, today I have been very prolific on LJ... :D)

So, I found out this afternoon what were the details of the whole story.

It was an inside job. >.>

First, they struck at 3:00 AM this morning. Our building is under construction, so there was scaffolding all around the building, which they climbed up to the third floor and got inside one of the windows there.

They then proceeded to break into every room THAT HAD SOMETHING OF VALUE IN IT. They knew EXACTLY where to strike and what to take. They broke into rooms with locked drawers that had money in them. One of the rooms on my floor had these metal carts with school laptops inside them. Only a special key can open those carts, and it was locked away inside a closet in the room - they knew to go into that closet, get the key, remove the laptops, and then CLOSE THE CART AGAIN, so it looked like nothing had happened. O.o;

So apparently, they tripped an alarm somewhere because the chief custodian was called in to the building, and he was the one who saw them and gave them chase. The thing is, they were trying to leave the building by the side entrance, which has a gate surrounding it from the outside. They had all the laptops in these carry-on, insulated bags that the school cafeteria uses to transport bag lunches. However, they couldn't lift the bags over those gates in time to escape, so they abandoned all the equipment, making off with only the cash they could carry.

And unfortunately, one of the inside guys might have been one of our students. :(  Nothing is known for sure, but I hope we will be able to catch whoever was responsible and get them arrested. >.<;

Whew, what a day. So glad it's the weekend, cause I'm drained. XD

One thing about Dragon Age... [Nov. 6th, 2009|05:16 pm]

[mood | content]

They are doing pretty well about the non-black-and-white choices. I mean, there are some that are still fairly black and white, but for the most part it's no longer a choice between "I shall sally forth and be a paladin of righteousness, at least for this quest/dialogue options!" and "*evil cackling laugh*"

Instead, we now have more subtlety. More of a "what do YOU think is the right thing, between two positions that aren't all necessarily right-or-wrong? Or do you even care?" And in some cases, really, more just a "okay, in which *particular* way do you want to be a complete and utter bastard?"

I'd say if anything, the choices on the whole are less about good and evil, and more about pragmatism in a tough time, vs. shiny happy idealism. Although there's still some of the good and evil around, of course.

It's... interesting.

(And I still have NO clue if thievery influences anything at all!)

Laptop stolen.... RECOVERED! O.o; [Nov. 6th, 2009|10:09 am]

[music |嵐 - Happiness]

Yeah. I've had an interesting morning today.

I came in to school normal time, and went to the copy room to pick up a test I'd photocopied the night before. One of the teachers in the room asked, "So do they know who did it?"

>.>a

"Did what?"

"Oh. You didn't hear? Someone broke into the school last night."

O_O;

Now normally, I lock up my laptop in a closet in my room because my room does not have a lock on the outside. It's a designated fire safety room for students who cannot evacuate the building quickly enough, and this is where the firemen would come to rescue them in case of a fire. I was working late last night and because I just wanted to go home, I put my laptop into my desk drawer, which also doesn't lock.

Immediately I ran back to my classroom, where I noticed that the speakers I'd put away nicely in a box next to my desk, were there, but all messed up. As if someone had rifled through them and then discarded them. I feared the worst, and it was verified when I opened the drawer and found that my laptop was gone.

-.-;

I reported it to my assistant principal right away, but pretty much was in a depressed mood because I knew I'd never see it again. So I was totally down first period, and the funny part was that some of my students, who are normally a bit disruptive in my class because they are chatty, were all like, "Don't bother Ms. Halo today. She's upset." So it was kinda nice to be given a break from having to deal with behavioral issues. :) They were all taking a test anyway, so they were very nicely quiet.

By the second period, as I was sitting at my desk, my assistant principal walked in... WITH MY LAPTOP IN HIS HANDS! O.O;;

I was completely flabbergasted and shocked. I had been so certain that I'd lost my laptop, I was already mourning the loss of all my grades, my newly revised lesson plans, my pictures... but there it was! Apparently, he told me something about it being found outside the school building and how it had been dropped when cops had given chase, but I don't know if that happened early this morning, or last night, or whenever! I don't particularly care though. :D

Now granted, I've completely lost my adapter, because they'd stolen that too, but fortunately, since it was stolen and I didn't lose it, I was able to get another one. :)

Just... wow. By all rights, I should not have gotten my laptop back, but now that I have, I am NEVER doing something stupid like that again - leaving it in my desk that doesn't lock. ^.^;;;

Now I feel like an idiot. I entered my codes for the two free downloads with Dragon Age, but didn't realize I still had to separately download them. It wasn't until I actually bought and downloaded the Warden's Keep pack and then looked over them in the "downloads" menu when I was starting the game that I realized that one said "downloaded" and the other two only said "purchased" and I still had to go in and download and install them. XD

Please someone else tell me you saw this post and said "oh hell..."! XD

Dragon Age impressions so far [Nov. 4th, 2009|02:21 am]

[mood | amused]

For the non spoily bits...

First off, I'm getting an AD&D second edition vibe for some reason, not sure what it is.

Second, I'd hate to be a guy in this society:

Man: *Is standing shaving at mirror in the morning*
Razor: *teeny nick*
Man: *Is suddenly covered in fountain of blood, obscuring the mirror and drenching half his clothing, making his face a mask of death*

Third... man, everyone DOES love the mages. [info]desdenova commented on it as well, but I'd noticed it before that. Out of like about seven or eight people on my friends list playing the game, I think I saw a warrior and a rogue, the rest mages. (Including my own. No, you don't need to ask the race.)

Fourth: You know, the combat wouldn't be NEARLY as difficult if there was a "stop being a fucking idiot" AI option. Or more to the point, a "refrain from gleefully running off into the thick of ten million foes well away from your damn healer" tactic. Even a "get your NPC asses back here" quick button would be nice. (After the fact, I suspect you could possibly press both shoulder buttons to select the whole party and move them away from the fight, but not sure. Haven't tried it.)

Was going to post spoily bits under a cut, but since I don't want people not playing (or not as far in) to dread clicking on the comments, I'll post them separately. So don't spoil in these comments please. ;)

November [Nov. 2nd, 2009|05:56 pm]

quangster
I must be seriously getting old because November is already here. It just seemed like yesterday that it was still summer. This time of year has always been hit or miss with me though. It's the time I want to spend the most with people I care about but never seem to have the chance. Another pressing question is whether or not I want to cook a full turkey this year. I actually know how to cook it now since last year's attempt was such a disaster. But the lesson was learned...it's all about temperature! Still, not sure how I want to do the meal this year.

This week also marks the beginning of a second job as well. I got a surprise call last week from my old job asking if I was interested in working part-time after my full time job. I was a little hesitant at first but they won me over with two things: flexibility and money. They were hoping to have me for 30 hours a week but I told them that with my school and schedule, I would only be able to give them 16-18 a week and they were more then happy with that. Seems that they don't want to hire someone full time yet (due to the crappy economy) but still want me to come back to work for them. I'm not really sure what it means but we'll try it and see how it goes. Plus, they're actually going to pay me more then what I was getting paid when I was working there. And if I'm lucky, the person that I dislike with either not be there (fat chance since she has no skills to get any other type of job) or she'll be gone by the time I start working or at least ready to leave so that I won't have to deal with her that much. It will be interesting coming back.

But what this all means is that I'm basically going to burn out after 2 months. Working 2 jobs, 60 hours a week and going to school on Tuesday nights and all day Saturdays (hate hate hate so much!) and then having my events on Sundays in FFXI means there's going to be a lot less time for my brain to shut off and relax. School is scheduled to end in April so I will finally have my Saturdays back then. Whether or not I get my certifications will be another story. This program has been a complete disaster. Curriculum wise, there was very little planning in the way of having a back up plan in case things didn't go well. They told us early on that we were the "guinea pig" group for the 2008 Server Administrator track that they were trying out. So far, it's been absolute bullshit. I paid good money to learn this stuff and when the labs don't work and half of the year is wasted because there are technical issues, I want a refund. But there will be no refund coming. Basically, we're on our own and that's the attitude most of the class has taken. If you want to learn it, you gotta do it yourself because we aren't learning jackshit right now. All of us are just throwing away money right now.

On a happier note, the ShirtNinjas of Phoenix celebrated their 6th anniversary on Sunday. My relationships don't even last half that long. This might be the last time we have it in FFXI since only 10 people showed up this year. But I plan on playing FFXIV and I know that those of us that do play will be creating the ShirtNinjas there as well. I might make one in SWTOR too although it might be just me, Isosi and one other person. >.> These people have been a part of my life for so long, they really are like my real life friends. It will be my mission to visit as many of them as I can before too much time passes by or I get caught in a relationship! The easiest things will be to visit the NY/NJ area and see everyone there and also go to D*Con and visit all the people living around that area. Seattle would take care of the rest. That's 80% of the linkshell right there. For now, gotta make the money and take care of business.
